Maribyrnong City Council has announced the upcoming redevelopment of RecWest Footscray as part of the West Footscray Community Facilities Plan. The redevelopment aims to revitalise the RecWest Footscray facility to better serve our growing community.
What's changing?
The redevelopment will address long-standing structural issues due to the site's location on a former landfill.
Key changes include:
- A new, larger RecWest facility featuring an upgraded and larger health club, café, two court indoor stadium, expanded meeting and kitchen spaces, and additional storage.
- Proposed realignment of Market Street to create a cycle-friendly plaza.
- Upgrades to Shorten Reserve, including a senior cricket-compliant oval, new cricket nets and an improved playground.
How we'll support our members
We understand the importance of continuity for our members during this transition. To ensure minimal disruption, Y Victoria and Maribyrnong City Council are working collaboratively to:
- Explore alternative local facilities to host programs and memberships during the redevelopment period.
- Continue some programming at RecWest Braybrook to maintain community engagement.
- Provide clear communication and support to all members throughout the process.
